http://cuttingthegordianknot.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/houston-we-have-a-problem-no-known-technology-to-deal-with-fukushima/
(May 2, 2012)
It was reported today that a U.S.
firm named EnergySolutions, which has been involved in the decommissioning of
10 nuclear power plants now aims to garnering multiple contracts for aiding other
companies in dismantling Fukushima. This is supposed to also include the spent
fuel rods housed there. However…….
Concerning the extraction of fuel
debris, which is considered the most challenging process, “There is no
technology which may be directly applied,” said Morant…….
This should be the top story in
the news every single day because it is the most important thing happening in
the world not only right now but in all of recorded history. This is bigger
than the global financial crisis, this is bigger than any election, riot,
protest and every single war since the dawn of man. It is the definitive event
of all human history. If we screw this up we’re all toast. Every single one of
us.
Today it has finally been
admitted, a fact that many of us have known since the beginning of this
nightmare, that there is no strategy and there is no real plan to
deal with Fukushima. Here we sit over a year into this thing, radiation washing
and raining across the globe and just now it’s being revealed to the greater
public that there is no technology developed to handle the situation…..
“It is no exaggeration to say that
the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on NO.4 reactor. This is
confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Prof. Fumiaki
Koide…….

Another huge anti nuclear demonstration in Japan - There is Enough Electricity in Japan without Restarting Oi Nuclear power plants!
The Japanese government insisted that there would not be enough
electricity to meet domestic demand without restarting the Oi Nuclear power plant. They even said that
without nuclear power, deaths might occur in hospitals, which rely on
electricity, and this was reported as being the main reason why local governors
in the Osaka
area agreed to the restart. How can the
government and Prime Minister Noda keep repeating this sort of complete
nonsense. Hospitals have backup power systems for emergencies. Also,
although it is very hot in Japan at the moment, there is more than enough electricity; actually there was about
10% surplus without nuclear power when it became very hot in mid-July even
after eight thermal power stations had been shut down soon after the nuclear
restart.
(Reference)
Even though two of the reactors at the Oi
Nuclear power station have been restarted, Japanese citizens haven’t given
up. This citizens’ demo in front of the Prime Minister’s residential office
started with 300 people in March, reaching 200,000 and filling up the pavement and the road near the
office just before the Oi reactors were restarted three weeks ago. Since then, the same number of citizens has
been trying to get there every Friday evening.
Despite the difficulties posed by tight control by policemen barricading
the area, putting up steel fences between the road and the pavement, and
closing three out of four of the exits of the subway stations nearest to the office, the demo is set to continue and has spread throughout
Japan. Yesterday, thirty different places in Japan held anti-nuclear
demos. On July 16th, 170,000 people, assembled
for a ' Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants - 10 million Rally ' in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. This group has
collected 7.8million signatures. More
and more Japanese citizens are becoming aware of the deceits perpetrated on
them by the government and globally-interconnected nuclear power groups and
feel need of expressing of their opinions.
Freelance Japanese journalist Mr. Iwakami
mentioned in a recent lecture that when Prime Minister Noda visited US
President Obama this April, he promised further US-Japan cooperation based
on the nuclear power business without public consent (more than 80% of Japanese
citizens don’t want nuclear). Former Prime Ministers Hatoyama and Kan
have been urging Mr. Noda to talk to citizen’s groups face to face, but despite
the growing number of anti-nuclear demonstrators, so far he has been refused.

A Farewell to Nuclear Power Plants: An appeal of seven Japanese scientists and intellectuals
http://worldpeace7.jp/en/modules/pico/index.php?content_id=21
Japan became the victim of both the military use of nuclear power in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and of its peaceful utilization in Fukushima.
This is why, the Committee of Seven for World Peace Appeals, shares the sincere wish of many citizens of Japan, in calling upon all the peoples of good-will of the World at large to start a global movement towards the abolition of all military use of nuclear power as well as the closure of all nuclear power plants.

Another Huge Demonstration against Restarting Oi Nuclear Power Plant on July 6th, 2012
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhlmXwzi82Y
Even after the Oi plant was restarted, over 150,000 citizens were trying to get to the Prime
Minister’s residential office despite the rain and the policemen blocking the
exit of the nearest subway station.
(Only one out of 14 was open.)
Here is a video of people trapped in the subway station.
There was media blackout including NHK which has been a national
broadcasting company and drawing its operational expenses from a public viewing
fee. The demo originally started with 300 people in
March. The number of people increased
week after week through the internet, reaching over 200,000 just before the Oi
Nuclear power station was restarted. This
is the biggest demonstration since the one over the new U.S.-Japan Security
treaty in 1970. Finally, the mainstream
media started to report on the demo, although they have been avoiding broadcasting
the report during prime time and trying to downplay its size. All Prime Minister Noda said
about it was, “There was a big commotion.”
It’s not really part of Japanese culture to stand up
against the government, but many more people are now realizing the importance
of expressing themselves and getting themselves heard. Prime Minister Noda and the government need
to listen to them rather than listening to the nuclear industries and big
corporations. Without it they cannot claim that Japan is a democratic country.

Lessons from Fukushima - Greenpeace report
It was a failure of human institutions to acknowledge real reactor
risks, a failure to establish and enforce appropriate nuclear safety
standards and a failure to ultimately protect the public and the
environment.
This report, commissioned by Greenpeace International, addresses what lessons can be taken away from this catastrophe. The one-year memorial of the Fukushima accident offers a unique opportunity to ask ourselves what the tragedy – which is far from being over for hundreds of thousands of Japanese people – has taught us.
And it also raises the question: are we prepared to learn?

“Fukushima disaster was a profoundly manmade disaster” by The Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission
http://www.slideshare.net/jikocho/naiic-report-hires
Although triggered by these cataclysmic events, the subsequent
accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant cannot be regarded as a
natural disaster. It was a profoundly
manmade disaster – that could and should have been foreseen and prevented. And
its effects could have been mitigated by a more effective human response…..
Our report catalogues a multitude of errors and willful negligence
that left the Fukushima plant unprepared for the events of March 11. And it
examines serious deficiencies in the response to the accident by TEPCO,
regulators and the government……
Black Planet Award for TEPCO - ethecon calls for punishment of TEPCO executives
http://www.ethecon.org/en/793
For the bestowal of the International ethecon Black Planet Award 2011 on the people in charge of TEPCO, the Japanese energy company responsible for the MCA at the nuclear plant in Fukushima, a delegation of ethecon members travels to Japan .....
One year after the onset of the nuclear desaster in Fukushima we have yet to see any substantial consequences dealt to the people responsible for this maximum credible accident. A few managers were replaced by the operating company TEPCO. Now the Japanese government has decided to make further payments to the company dependent on the replacement of all 17 directors. However, there is no talk of criminal charges…..
ethecon - Foundation Ethics & Economics demands that the major share holders be held liable for damages and the decision makers of the energy company be subject to criminal charges.
Without the faulty decisions of these executives, the nuclear catastrophe may never have happened. These decisions led to the now known structural defects and cost cuts in safety and maintenance. „For them, profit was more important than the protection of the population and the environment“ - this was the comment given by ethecon chairman Axel Köhler-Schnura. „The company´s managers must be held accountable for the humanitarian catastrophe they caused.“……
