They said that radioactive Cesium in the river water was less than
1.0-2.1Bq/kg(L ), but what about Strontium90??? While Cesium vaporizes easily and moves far
away, Str90(Strontium90) dissolves in water easily. Therefore you find it
more in rivers, ponds, lakes and in sea water. This is worrying because
once our water source is contaminated, then all living things are
affected. Yet no food authorities checks
amount of Str90. It is 300 times more
radioactively toxic than Cesium because while cesium can be out of body in 100
days, much of Str90 stays in bones of the body.
The risk of bone cancer and leukemia increase with increased exposure to
Strotium90. (Its half life is 28.8 years.)
