* Guest speaker: Ms Tamara Krasitskava,
chairperson of Zemlyaki, Ukraine NGO in Kiev to represent those who had to
collectively evacuate from Pripyat
* With exhibitions of pictures drawn by
children of Chernobyl evacuees, in order "not to forget" the
disaster.
"Fukushima" was not the only,
not the first "level 7" nuclear accident. Twenty seven years ago, on
26 April 1986, Chernobyl in Ukraine (USSR at the time) also had a disastrous
nuclear accident. The cities near Chernobyl nuclear station needed to be
abandoned and around one hundred thousands of residents had to evacuate. Even
here in the UK, 2,000km away from Chernobyl, the "hot spots" with
higher radiation were found at the time and the children were told not to play
outside to avoid the risk.
