TEPCO Fails To Follow Regulations In Dumping Contaminated Typhoon Water To Pacific

TEPCO released to the sea, rainwater that had built up behind the concrete barrier around the contaminated water tanks at the plant. These areas have been of high concern as various tanks have been found to be leaking highly contaminated waste water. TEPCO released water they determined to be below the legal limit to dump into the sea. TEPCO apparently forgot to follow the proper process to obtain permission to do so.
TEPCO claims they did reserve some water that was above the legal limit allowed to be dumped into the sea, this is supposedly being stored on site. The reserved rainwater was emitting as much as 170,000 becquerels per liter of beta radiation. Both the high and low water contains significant levels of strontium 90, known to cause bone cancer.
The NRA has not said if they will pursue any punitive action against TEPCO for the violation.
