Belarusian therapists help Japanese colleagues to fight radiation 日本放射線専門家:ベラルーシで同僚から援助

Japanese doctors continue to struggle with radiation and the consequences of the Fukushima accident with the help of their Belarusian colleagues. Brest endocrinologists are among the best diagnosticians in Belarus. The first and mobile laboratory for thyroid cancer detection appeared in this region.
By Viktoria Potonya: The new equipment arrived in spring from Japan as part of a charity program. And today, the dispensary head physician himself teaches his Japanese counterparts who do not have enough practice.
Yuko Yanagisawa, therapist, Fukushima Prefecture (Japan): "The Fukushima accident took place two and a half years ago. But we have found thyroid cancer in more than forty children. The official medical community believes that this situation is not related to the radiation effects from the accident, but we disagree with this. Therefore, we came to Belarus to consult local specialists".
Artur Grigorovich, chief medical officer of the Brest Regional Endocrinology Clinic: "95% of thyroid cancers that have emerged due to radioactive iodine are benign in nature and are curable".
According to experts, worldwide incidence of thyroid cancer is increasing. It is difficult to diagnose cancer at an early stage, when metastases dare not yet visible, but Belarusians learnt to do this.
Maxim Lushchik, head of the research laboratory of the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education: "Thyroid cancer can be easily detected responds well to treatment".
Tomorrow the Japanese doctors will visit the Children's Cancer Center in Borovlyany.
