Police arrest animal rescuers inside Fukushima evacuation zone — “They cannot be contacted and are being charged with crimes”双葉町の警察に、先週末から、動物救助活動をされてきた星野親子が、犯罪の容疑で、逮捕され、拘束されたまま、外部への連絡がとれない状態にされています。

Two of the Hoshino Family Have Been Arrested as of Yesterday(27//13) and detained by the Futaba Fukushima Police. Of course it is none other than animal activists Hoshi Hiroshi and Leo Hoshi. They cannot be contacted and are being charged with crimes. The Hoshi Hiroshi Family has been rescuing animals each weekend inside the zone and surroundings for almost 2 years as a private volunteer rescue group. This is atrocious and we will be showing our support. Stay tuned as we learn more. Please share with your friends in English, Japanese and other languages.

The Fukushima prefecture Animal rescue headquarter withdrew from 20km radiation control zone.  Currently small local rescue group is operating and feeding a few hundreds of pets. However they don’t rescue them out of the area.  The Fukushima prefecture Animal rescue headquarters collected donation 650 million yens, but they might have misspent it illegally.  They only rescued about 800 pets so far.  Also Dr. Baba veterinarian from Kanagawa prefecture who is among the local rescue group stole goods from a resident’s house and pets food from the local pet shops.  MOE and Veterinaarian association have been trying to hide the truth.
The Japanese government has prohibited veterinarians and animal rescue groups from entering the exclusion zone and currently only researchers from universities can enter the area.

*A report of the situation in the evacuation by Mr. Hoshino (July 2012)
There were about 600,000 farm animals and 25,000 pets in the area. In May 2011 a disposition for slaughter of them was ordered by the Japanese government.  Some farmers rejected it.  90% of farm animals and pets died of hunger.  Right now there are about 2000 pets struggling to survive.   The Japanese government announced that there are no more pets in the zone, however. Because local residents are restricted to return their home (three times a year) and because of pet loss some residents killed themselves and some have traumas.

“Basic Principles of the Environment Ministry in its response to the Tohoku-Pacific Region Earthquake” published on March 16, 2011, that “adequate support will be provided to ensure that pets in the disaster area receive appropriate care so that people and their pets can maintain good relations while living within the disaster area.”

For pets to be banned from evacuation centers, public housing and temporary housing, forcing earthquake victims and their pets to live separately, would therefore be in direct violation of this stated aim of the Environment Ministry.

We need your help for releasing two of the Hoshino family without any charge and allowing animal rescue groups to rescue the animals left inside the 20km zone Fukushima

A message posted by a friend of Hoshino family in their facebook: http://www.facebridge.net/fukushimaanimal?sc=1

They were arrested by 4 policemen without a arrest warrant.  They will be sent to Musashino police in Tokyo.  (They live in Musashino-shi in Tokyo.)

Their arrest was reported in this above Mainichi news net in Japanese on 28/1/13. They were charged by getting into the evacuation zone using a forged traffic authorization pass.  However it never mentioned they had been rescuing pets from the evacuation zone for pet’s owner who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get their loved ones back.
