Radioactive cesium detected in stock feed imports from Japan
Radioactive chemical has been deteced in some of Korea's stock feeds imported from Japan fanning fears that it could threaten the country's food chain.
According to a report by the agriculture ministry, levels as high as 2.3 becquerels of cesium were found in more than 85 tons of assorted feed for livestock.
About 10-thousand tons of different types of feeds are estimated to have been distributed so far nationwide.
The Korean government has banned seafood imports from Fukushima and nearby prefectures, but has no set regulations on stock feed imports from those areas.
Experts warn that although the detected amounts are lower than the government's safety levels, the situation could change if fish and livestock continue to consume the cesium-tainted feed.
専門家は、、今のところ、検出されたセシウムの量が安全基準より低いものだが、もし、魚や家畜肉などが、引き続き、セシウムに汚染された飼料を食べ続けると、情勢は、変わってくるだろうと、警告した。
